Co‑Ed & All‑Girls Divisions • 5v5 Non‑Contact • No Experience Needed • Grades 5–8

OUR MISSION
To engage Springfield youth in a safe, inclusive flag football setting that builds responsibility, teamwork, leadership, resilience, and character while actively promoting healthy lifestyles, physical fitness, mental well‑being, and violence & drug use prevention through structured sport and community engagement.

PROGRAM DETAILS
  • Dates: Saturdays, Sept 20 – Oct 25, 2025 (6 weeks incl. clinics, games, playoffs & championship)
  • Times: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Eligibility: Must be enrolled in a Springfield public or charter middle school and play for your current school
  • Location: Will be announced first week of school.
  • Divisions:
  • 6th & Younger (5th and 6th graders)
  • 7th Grade
  • 8th Grade
  • Team size: 10–12 players; each team needs a coach or faculty sponsor
  • Academic Requirement: 70% GPA or higher as of June 2025 report card
  • Cost: Free—includes school jersey, flag belt & flags

PREVENTION & WELLNESS FOCUS
Reducing Risks Through Play
  • UNODC’s Line Up Live Up curriculum shows sport-based life skills training helps build resilience, reduces violence and drug use, and improves decision-making and confidence.
  • Longitudinal studies show youth sports participation is linked to lower illicit drug use, though careful structure is critical.
  • Exercise mitigates anxiety, depression, and substance use risk—boosting mental health and self-esteem.
Positive Youth Development
  • Evidence-based models like Sports-Based Youth Development (SBYD) emphasize intentional program structures that support life skills, belonging, and emotional growth.
  • Participation in team sport fosters social capital, school engagement, and reduces delinquency risk when well-designed.

PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS
Includes all Springfield Public Middle Schools (e.g., Academy at Kiley, Balliet, Chestnut Accelerated, South End, STEM Middle Academy, etc.) and Charter Schools (Springfield Preparatory, Veritas Prep, Baystate Academy, Libertas, etc.)

What is MLS GO?
MLS GO is the official youth recreational soccer program of Major League Soccer, designed to teach kids the game in a fun, positive environment. The focus is on fundamentals, teamwork, sportsmanship, and growing confidence both on and off the field.
This program is more than soccer—it’s about building character and community.

All skill levels welcome.

Inclement Weather Policy
In the event of inclement weather, the League administration will make a decision whether or not to hold practice or play the game. Coaches or other school officials cannot alter these instructions.

  • Automatic Cancellations: Activities will be automatically canceled if the area is under a severe weather warning.
  • Severe Weather Watch: League administrators will use discretion to decide if activities proceed.
Communication of Cancellations:
  1. The coach will use their primary mode of communication to inform athletes and parents of cancellations.
  2. League administration will send an email to notify parents.
  3. The session calendar will be updated with the cancellation.
Make-Up Policy:
  • Make-up practices will be scheduled at the discretion of the head coach, in consultation with League administration.
  • Make-up games are not guaranteed due to scheduling constraints.

Refund Policy
  • No Refunds: Once the deposit or full registration fee is paid, no refunds are given.
  • Credit for Future Sessions: In cases of injury, illness, or other emergencies, written notification must be provided two weeks prior to the tournament for consideration of a credit toward a future session (minus the deposit).
  • COVID-19/Other Emergencies: In the case of disruptions due to COVID-19 or other virus-related events, credits will be offered for future sessions in 2025.

Western Mass Youth Sports Inc. - Spectator Fee Policy

Effective: 1/1/2025

As part of our efforts to sustain and grow the programs provided by Western Mass Youth Sports Inc. (501(c)(3) non-profit), we are implementing a $3 spectator fee for all attendees at games.

Policy Overview:
  • The spectator fee is set at $5 per person for all individuals attending games.
  • The fee applies to all spectators, including parents, family members, and friends of participants.
  • Children under the age of 2 will be admitted free of charge.

Purpose of the Fee:
  • To support the operational costs of the league and our facilities.
  • To ensure the continued success and development of youth sports programs in our community.

Payment Process:
  • Spectator fees will be collected at the entrance of the game venue.
  • Cash and electronic payments (via mobile payment systems or credit/debit cards) will be accepted.

Thank You for Your Support:
Your understanding and support of this policy are greatly appreciated. The funds generated from the spectator fee will go directly towards enhancing the experience for all participants and ensuring the sustainability of our programs.

What is Jr. NBA?

The Jr. NBA is the official youth basketball program of the NBA. It’s designed to teach the game the right way—focusing on fundamentals, teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun. Whether your child is brand new to basketball or looking to sharpen their skills, the Jr. NBA is a place where kids grow both on and off the court.
This is more than a basketball league. It’s a community that builds confidence, character, and connection.
